The Sebae clownfish is a unique species of reef-dwelling fish found in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. They are members of the family Pomacentridae, which also includes Damselfishes and Angelfishes. The body coloration ranges from yellow to brown with stark white stripes on their dorsal fin spines that start at the eye and extend to the tail.
The Sebae clownfish are found in the Indo-Pacific Ocean, usually inhabiting reef areas with strong currents where they feed on zooplankton such as copepods or fish larvae. They typically live at depths of less than 100 feet (30 m) but can also be found between 30 and 150 feet (18-50 m).
This species is unique because it has a symbiotic relationship with the giant barrel sponge. They live inside of these sponges, which provides them protection from predators while also providing shelter for their eggs to hatch. Juveniles will continue to spend time within the sponges until they are about an inch (25 mm) in length and then they will venture out to live on the reef.
Sebae Clownfish are considered harmless to humans, but some individuals may find this species of fish distasteful because their body coloration is very similar to that of a poisonous sea snake. For this reason, it’s best not to handle them with bare hands.
Origin
The Sebae Clownfish is found in the Indo-Pacific. It lives at depths of up to 50 meters (164 feet) and is commonly seen in aquariums. They are found primarily in shallow waters on coral reefs, around rocks, and seaweed forests or lagoons. There are many different colors of this fish which could be attributed to geographical location. This particular type also lives at depths of up to 50 meters (164 feet) but is most commonly seen in shallow waters.
Species profile
The Sebae Clownfish is a very small saltwater fish that lives in the Indian and Pacific oceans. This species of clownfish has an average lifespan of about three years, with some living up to nine years. Females usually grow larger than males do, especially during their reproductive period when they can reach lengths of five inches long. The females are called “henna clownfish” and are slightly different in coloration than the males.
Sebae Clownfish have a white/blue body with yellow spots on their fins, which can look black or green depending on the lighting. The outside of their mouth is also usually blue-ish to match their eyes. During mating season, they are very territorial and will show off their blue fins to attract a mate.
The Sebae Clownfish is an omnivore, which means that it eats both plants and animals. They eat algae scraped from rocks or corals as well as small invertebrates like plankton, but they mostly feed on the eggs of other fish.
This species is usually found in relatively shallow waters, but it can be seen as deep as 30 meters below the surface. It prefers to live around rocks and coral reefs where there are plenty of places to hide from predators. They typically swim at depths between five meters and 20 meters below the surface.
The Sebae Clownfish gets its name from the Arabic word for “raisin,” which is seba.
Color and appearance
The Sebae Clownfish is a relatively small clownfish species that grows to about five inches in length. They are typically yellow with red and blue spots on their body, but green specimens have been observed as well. The markings on the sides of the fish may be black or dark brownish-purple coloring.
The fins are typically yellow with blue and red stripes, that have black edges on the front and back fin rays. The dorsal has two lines running down it lengthwise from head to tail end, one line up close to the head, and one line close to the tail.
The mouth is located on the bottom of its body so it can swim in a constant state of feeding at all times.
Habitat
The Sebae Clownfish lives in the Western Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean, as well as many other bodies of water.
Sebae Clownfish are typically found on coral reefs or lagoons that have a sandy bottom. They can also be seen near rocky shores or algae-covered rocks.
They live in groups with their own species.
The Sebae Clownfish is usually found in a group of about 20 but can be seen living with other fish that it’s not typically associated with. They lay their eggs on the bottom of reefs and lagoons during mating season.
Size and Appearance
The Sebae Clownfish is small, usually only reaching lengths of three inches. They can be found in the Indo-Pacific Ocean from India to New Guinea and are also found near Christmas Island. In appearance, they have a yellow body with brown stripes on top of their head as well as an orange tail that has dark spots along the edges.
Body Size: Approximately three inches long or less in length
Appearance: Yellow body with brown stripes on top of their head as well as an orange tail that has dark spots along the edges.
Life cycle
Sebae Clownfish are sequential hermaphrodites. This means that they will first become male, and then if the current one dies or becomes female, it can switch to being a female. They usually reach sexual maturity at two years of age. When these fish mate, the males typically fertilize the eggs of females before leaving them in the water. The eggs will hatch in two days and the larvae stay close to their mother for some time.
Mating: Males fertilize females before offspring leaves them
Sexual Maturity: Two years of age
Maturity Length: Approximately two months
Egg Laying Periods: Typically once a year, but can happen twice sometimes.
Are they peaceful or aggressive?
Sebae Clownfish are typically peaceful. They live in a range of habitats and can be found near reefs, seagrass beds, and lagoons. While they share their habitat with other fish and invertebrates, they generally do not fight or chase each other.
These clownfish are solitary creatures that spend most of the day hunting for food in small schools. They’re also territorial so one Sebae Clownfish will usually keep to themselves unless there is a threat nearby such as another predator entering the territory.
Sebae Clownfish are not aggressive unless they feel threatened or have their eggs threatened, in which case they will aggressively defend themselves and their offspring.
Sebae clownfish care
What they eat
The sebae clownfish diet is typically made up of small invertebrates and zooplankton. When these are not available, they will eat algae and other plant material which usually exist in abundance in their environment. They have also been known to consume sponges with oodles of tiny creatures living inside them. And, when they’re really hungry, sebae clownfish will eat each other.
Tank mates
They can live with any type of fish that is not too aggressive for them. When purchasing a sebae clownfish, it is important to remember that they require an aquarium of at least 100 gallons. They have been known to eat crustaceans in the wild and will act aggressively towards other fish if they are not properly introduced. Try introducing them by placing both tanks next to one another first so the two can get used to one another’s smell.
Water condition
Sebae Clowns are a marine fish species that need water conditions with low salt content and high oxygen levels. They can be kept in freshwater, but prefer the salty oceanic environment of their natural habitat. Sebae Clownfish like to hang out in groups, so they will need at least three tanks if you want them all together; however, they can also be kept in pairs or alone.
Breeding
The sebae clownfish will breed in captivity, but you need a male and female to reproduce. It may be possible for people to create their own breeding pair by purchasing two juveniles of the same sex and raising them together. The aquarist must watch closely for courtship behavior between fish that are compatible with each other: this is usually indicated by increased swimming activity or more aggressive behavior between the two.
The sebae clownfish do not pair off like other species of anemonefishes and will breed with any fish that is introduced to its tank. But this can be a good thing because it gives your aquarium some diversity in color combinations if you have different types of fish in your tank.
When attempting to create a new breeding pair, make sure they are both at least two or three inches long and at least six months old.
Lifespan
The sebae clownfish can live for about twelve years.
Parasites and diseases
The Sebae Clownfish is a relatively hardy breed of clownfish. They are not as susceptible to parasites and diseases as other breeds, such as the Maroon Clownfish or Ocellaris Clownfish. The most common parasite found in this species is ichthyophthirius multifiliis (aka white spot disease). Other diseases that can be found in this breed are:
Lernaeocera branchialis (gill and mouth rot), Cryptocaryon irritans, Caulerpa taxifolia. There may also be some Ocellaris Clownfish mixed in with the Sebae Clownfish.
Predators
When it comes to predators, there are two main types of animals that prey on this animal. The first would be marine life such as sharks and other fish species. These animals eat the clownfish by either harassing them or eating them whole if they can get close enough. The second type is land-based creatures like terrestrial crabs, birds, and lizards. These animals usually catch the Sebae Clownfish by surprise or snatch them up when they are hiding in their anemones to avoid being eaten by predators of marine life.
Does it make good pets?
The Sebae Clownfish is not recommended as a pet because of its aggressiveness. They can be territorial and for this reason, they are being bred in captivity less because many fish collectors want to keep them with other clownfishes that share the same habitat in the wild.
